Volunteer

Volunteering is a great way to get involved.  A Child's Wish offers many different types of oppotunities to help a Louisiana child - whether its a few hours per month or a few days each year. 

Some of our volunteer needs include:

• Wish co-ordinator - work with our children and their families to help organize and fulfill their wishes. 
• Wish granting - work with businesses and other organizations to locate the resources needed to fulfill each wish.
• Video / photographer - we are always in need of skilled video and photography help to preserve the memories created by our children.
• Committee members - serve on a particular group of committee 
  depending on what interests you.
• Board members
• Fundraising

When does A Child’s Wish meet?

Our meetings are held on the second Tuesday of every month at 6:45 PM at the A Childs Wish Headquarters located at 608 Clearview Parkway, Metairie, Louisiana 70001.

Open Membership

Membership is open to anyone who is interested in helping make the wish come true for a child with a life-threatening illness.  Volunteers must be willing to attend monthly meetings and respect the by-laws and charter of A Child's Wish.

Are there dues? How much?

All members are requested to pay annual dues amounting to $15 for a single membership and $25 for a family membership. Other types of memberships are also available

Who runs the day-to-day operations of A Child's Wish?

The officers of A Child's Wish are responsible for conducting the day-to-day operation of the organization. The officers are president, president elect / vice president, secretary and treasurer.  Officers are elected by the Board of Directors and serve for one year. The President appoints the Wish Chairperson, Historian, Membership Chairperson and Media Chairperson.

How do you get to be a member of A Child's Wish Board of Directors?

After one year as a member, the Board will review the performance of the individual and may nominate the individual to a position on the Board of Directors.  To qualify a person must be: a member in good standing (having paid his yearly membership dues) for at least one year and must have attended 75% of the meetings during that time.  Attendance at monthly meetings is required. We expect our Board to be an active Board; therefore, absence for more than 3 meetings is grounds for removal from the Board.

What is the difference between a member and a Board member?

Any dues payer is a member. As a member, you have a vote in electing the Board of Directors. The Board of Directors then elects the officers to run the corporation for one year. Only Board members are allowed to vote to approve the granting of a wish and to approve the budget for the wish.

Are members required to attend fundraising events?

Members are encouraged, but not required, to attend and/or support fundraising events which benefit A Child's Wish.

Do members solicit contributions?

Members are neither encouraged nor discouraged from soliciting contributions for A Child's Wish.

How can I become active in A Child's Wish?

That's the easy part! Attend our monthly meetings; work on wishes with an experienced member and request assignment to a committee(s). Share our excitement in fulfilling dreams and use and develop your own special talents.
